چکیده

In this paper, we survey some of our new results on the complexity of a number of problems related to polynomial ideals. We consider multivariate polynomials over some ring, like the integers or the rationals. For instance, a polynomial ideal membership problem is a (w + 1)-tuple P = ( f, g1, g2, . . . , gw) where f and the gi are multivariate polynomials, and the problem is to determine whether f is in the ideal generated by the gi . For polynomials over the integers or rationals, this problem is known to be exponential space complete. We discuss further complexity results for problems related to polynomial ideals, like the word and subword problems for commutative semigroups, a quantitative version of Hilbert’s Nullstellensatz in a complexity theoretic version, and problems concerning the computation of reduced polynomials and Gröbner bases. © 1997

The membership probl mixed polynomial i solvable in single exp

Dickenstein, A., N. Fitchas, M. Giusti and C. Sessa, The membership problem for unmixed polynomial ideals is solvable in single exponential time, Discrete Applied Mathematics 33 (1991) 73-94. Deciding membership for polynomial ideals represents a classical problem of computational commutative algebra which is exponential space hard. This means that the usual al membership problem which are base...

Computational Theory of Polynomial Ideals

We provide methods to do explicit calculations in a polynomial ring in finitely many variables over a field. We develop algorithms to compute quotients of ideals, the radical of an ideal and a primary decomposition of an ideal. We also present methods to solve explicit tasks such as testing for prime ideals or identical ideals.

Generating Random Factored Ideals in Number Fields

We present a randomized polynomial-time algorithm to generate a random integer according to the distribution of norms of ideals at most N in any given number field, along with the factorization of the integer. Using this algorithm, we can produce a random ideal in the ring of algebraic integers uniformly at random among ideals with norm up to N , in polynomial time. We also present a variant of...
